The owner of a historic landmark in the Uptown area of West Las Vegas, and the President of the Las Vegas Ward 5 Chamber of Commerce has been appointed by Las Vegas Ward 5 City Councilman Ricky Barlow to the City of Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission.

A member of Club Uptown, Ms. Duncan intends to hit the ground running, as usual.  “I want to thank Councilman Barlow for the opportunity to help implement the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Program to revitalize and bring tourism to historic West Las Vegas.” 

As a resident of West Las Vegas and the owner of Ms. Harrison’s Boarding House on F Street, the landmark which once housed many Las Vegas entertainers during segregation, Katie Duncan has a vested interest in the success of the area.

Ms. Duncan will be posting activity of her new office on the Club Uptown site.

Prince Dah Vignon and Princess Bumpenya arrive Uptown.

Royal African Ball BBQ:  6 May 2007–/ Prince Dah Vignon, Kalume Mukadi and Princess Bumpenya, Sarah Culberson visit Uptown Las Vegas for the Barbecue the day after the Royal African Ball in Las Vegas.

The Prince and Princess flew in from Munich, Germany and from Los Angeles, respectively, to participate in the function to raise funds for secular school development in sub-Saharan Africa.

Prince Dah Vignon’s efforts in education, healthcare and business initiatives have been recognized  in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal.  He is African immigration consultant to the City of Munich.

Princess Sarah formed the Kposowa Foundation to re-build the school in her ancestral village in Sierra Leone, after discovering her lineage and her birth father there.  She has since brought her remarkable story to print in “A Princess Found: An American Family, An African Chiefdom, and the Daughter Who Connected Them All”.

“After the Crocket victory, the cases the cases poured in for Goodman.  he became a name on the West Side and started to generate income.”

A meeting in the Uptown area on Saturday, October 31 at 9:00 a.m. at the New Town Tavern, at the corner of Jackson and F Streets, has been slated to confirm solidarity of key property and business owners.  The plan in general is to create “The Uptown Loop”, running from the soon-to-reopen F Street at Grand Central Parkway, north to Jackson Avenue, east to D Street, and South to the corner of D Street and Bonanza Road.

The Loop would run through the historic Jackson Street Commercial District, as well as the mega-churches of “Holy Row” and the bustling businesses of D Street, all of which date back to before Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas.

The more things Change, the more they stay the same.  The headlines of Life Magazine in 1955 read exactly like today’s.

Perhaps we have a case of history repeating.  Perhaps this run will be better still.
